April 26, 2024

Officials Around the State Prepare for 2024 Election Season

This week, the Office of the Secretary of State gathered election officials from all over Minnesota for the 2024 Election Administration Training Conference. This four-day event was an opportunity to share best practices, learn about election equipment and procedures, and discuss safety and security, all in preparation for the upcoming election season.

“Minnesota is a leader in election performance because of the outstanding effort of our local officials,” said Secretary of State Steve Simon. “They are our critical partners, and they inspire widespread confidence in our election system. Their energy and dedication to always improving the process is what leads to an excellent experience when voters cast their ballots.”

Around 300 election officials attended at Grand View Lodge in Nisswa. The agenda included sessions on election law changes, security issues, ballot counters and assistive voting devices, absentee and mail balloting, and more.

“Secretary Simon and his team have shared important information and resources in election administration,” said Michael Stalberger, Blue Earth County Elections Director. “Elections staff around the state welcome the opportunity to gather, share our experiences, and get answers to our questions as we prepare for the year ahead.”

Of particular note, the Secretary of State’s Election Security Navigator Team presented a session on Security and Emergencies, covering cybersecurity issues, physical security measures, and communications protocols.

“Safe and secure elections are essential to our way of life, and it’s critical that all of our local elections partners are fully prepared to be vigilant,” said Bill Ekblad, Security Navigator at the Secretary of State’s Office. “Sound security practices in every domain are crucial to be ready for any situation.”
