Secretary Simon Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Decision on Mail Voting Rules

September 14, 2026

Voting by mail processes will remain unchanged in Minnesota for the 2026 Election

SAINT PAUL – On September 14, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court denied a request by the federal government to stay a federal court’s injunction which blocked the implementation of a new rule by USPS that would have changed how mail ballots were delivered across the country.

Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon issued the following statement:

“Minnesota and dozens of other states have stood up to protect the rights of voters across the country. Tonight’s ruling restores full confidence that voters will continue to have access to vote by mail.

Election officials across the state will be able to breathe easier knowing their work will not be upended by a last-minute unconstitutional power grab by the federal government.

Our office will continue to protect voters’ rights and stand with our dedicated local election officials.

With the start of voting just a few days away, now is the time for Minnesotans to make their plan to vote by mail, early in-person, or in-person on Election Day at mnvotes.gov.”
