September 15 is National Voter Registration Day
SAINT PAUL - On September 15, 2026, Minnesota is celebrating National Voter Registration Day (NVRD). The Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State encourages Minnesotans to take a few minutes to ensure they are registered to vote by visiting mnvotes.gov/register.
“National Voter Registration Day is the perfect opportunity for Minnesotans in all 87 counties to make their plan to vote on November 3 – and that starts by making sure you are registered to vote if you are eligible,” said Secretary Simon.
On Tuesday, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon visited the North Shore to encourage young Minnesotans to get registered. He visited the University of Minnesota – Duluth and Lake Superior College to participate in campus NVRD celebrations. He also spoke to students at The Marshall School in Duluth and William Kelley High School in Silver Bay.

To be eligible to vote, a person must be 18 or older by Election Day, a U.S. Citizen, a resident of Minnesota for at least 20 days, not currently incarcerated for a felony conviction, and not under a court order that revokes your right to vote.
Minnesotans aged 16 and 17 who are otherwise eligible to vote can also pre-register to vote so they will be registered to vote on their 18th birthday.
Minnesotans can check their registration, register to vote, and pre-register to vote at mnvotes.gov/register.
About National Voter Registration Day
National Voter Registration Day was created in 2012 to help address such issues by serving as a nationwide nonpartisan rallying point to promote voter registration. More than 6.5 million citizens have registered to vote on the annual holiday since its creation, including a record-breaking 1.5 million in 2020 alone.
Secretary Simon currently serves as the honorary co-chair of the 2026 National Voter Registration Day Steering Committee.
