Secretary Simon Statement on Conviction for Attempt to Cast a Fraudulent Ballot

October 20, 2025

No fraudulent votes were counted in connection with the case

SAINT PAUL – On October 15, a Minnesota woman was sentenced to three years of supervised probation and a fine of $885 after pleading guilty to felony absentee voter fraud.

Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon issued the following statement:

“Minnesota’s elections are protected by robust election security features in place before, during, and after election day. This conviction is yet more evidence that these systems work. The extensive checks in Minnesota's voting process ensured that the fraudulent ballot was immediately flagged and was not counted.

Our office is grateful for the dedicated election officials and law enforcement in Itasca County that reported and investigated this case – protecting the integrity of our election.

Let this be a lesson – if you attempt to vote while ineligible you will be caught and brought to justice.”
