Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Decision on Federal SAVE Program
September 25, 2026
SAINT PAUL – On Friday, September 25, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling allowing states to use the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s SAVE program to maintain voter lists.
Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon issued the following statement:
“I want to be very clear – this ruling has no effect on Minnesota elections. Minnesota has never used the SAVE Program for voter verification, we’re not permitted in state law to do so, and we have no plans to do so.
Even if it were lawful, reports have shown the SAVE Program to be deeply flawed when it comes to transparency, accuracy, and data security.
Minnesotans should rest easy knowing that their right to vote won’t be impeded by this faulty project.”
