Senate Districts 29 and 47 Special Elections


The Governor has issued Writs of Special Election (SD 29 Writ, SD 47 Writ) to fill vacancies in Senate Districts 29 and 47. Senate District 29 includes much of Wright County, and parts of Hennepin and Meeker counties. Senate District 47 includes the city of Woodbury in Washington county and the southern part of the city of Maplewood in Ramsey county.

Election Dates

  • Special Primary: August 26, 2025
  • Special Election: November 4, 2025

Candidate Information

Candidates may file for office at the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State in Saint Paul or with the county auditor of their county of residence. Candidates and their supporters are reminded that, in addition to filing their candidacy for office as described above, campaign committees must register with the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board no later than 14 days after the committee has raised or spent $750.

  • Candidate Filing Period: July 30, 2025 to August 6, 2025 (until 5:00 p.m.)
  • Withdrawal Period: ends August 7, 2025 (at 5:00 p.m.)
  • Write-in requests: due by October 28, 2025
    • Write-in Candidate Request (to get write-in votes for an unfiled candidate counted): District 29  District 47
